Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals’ Autoimmune and Rare Diseases business is taking a stand – actually, a walk – against kidney disease. The company is the 2015 National Corporate Sponsor of the National Kidney Foundation’s (NKF) Kidney Walk.
The Kidney Walk takes place in 80 U.S. cities with more than 75,000 walkers. Last year, the walk raised $8 million to help kidney patients and their families.
“Mallinckrodt works to help raise awareness, prevention and treatment of kidney disease,” said Derek Naten, Senior Director, Government Affairs and Advocacy Relations. “We are proud to partner with an organization that continues to make great strides in combating kidney disease by educating, supporting and advocating for patients and those affected by the disease.”
Kidney disease is on the rise, according to the NKF. Two major risk factors for kidney disease are diabetes and high blood pressure. In fact, one in every three American adults is at risk of kidney disease. The NKF is the leading U.S. organization devoted to awareness, prevention and treatment of kidney disease. More than 80 cents of every dollar donated to the NKF directly supports programs and services.
