Mallinckrodt’s Mike Gentilcore Recognized by the St. Louis Section of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers

The St. Louis Section of the American Institute of Chemical IMG_0387_croppedEngineers (AIChE) has announced that Mallinckrodt’s Mike Gentilcore will be the recipient of its 2017 “Shining Star” Award. The award is given by the National Organization in recognition of outstanding service and commitment to the local affiliate.

Mike, a Senior Principal Process Engineer, has been actively involved in the St. Louis section of AIChE throughout his entire 42-year career. Having held the positions of Treasurer, Director, Vice Chair, Chair, and Past Chair, Mike has been an important asset to the section’s officer core over the years bringing new and inventive ideas to help the organization.

During his time as an officer, Mike was instrumental in implementing systems that ease the process of organizing meetings and create a more consistent experience for attendees. As Treasurer, he found innovative ways to grow membership and make the section more fiscally stable. He also helped resurrect the finance and marketing committees – two important committees which had not been used in years.

“Mike has raised the bar for section volunteers and created an enthusiasm for moving the section forward, said Marsha Wisely, Chair, AIChE St. Louis. “He continually challenges officers to make holding positions easier and passing the baton more seamless. Though many of Mike’s contributions are behind the scenes and not as visible to the general membership, they have had a great impact on the success of the St. Louis section.”

Mike has also made his mark on the chemical engineering industry. Having authored seven papers and publications, he has advanced industry knowledge of batch and semi-batch reactions. Mike also holds five patents for chemical processes.

“Mike has been a significant contributor here at Mallinckrodt for almost 28 years,” said Ralph Grant, Sr. Director of Engineering. “Without a doubt, the value he has generated through his extensive chemical engineering contributions is impossible to measure. The AIChE’s Shining Star award is a tremendous honor and there is no one more deserving of this recognition than Mike.”

AIChE is the world’s leading organization for chemical engineering professionals, with more than 50,000 members from over 100 countries. Learn more at https://www.aiche.org/.
