Animals Tug on the Heartstrings of Mallinckrodt Volunteer Teams

Teams of Mallinckrodt employees received lots of love and “kisses” from furry, four-legged friends while volunteering at local animal shelter and rescue groups during Mallinckrodt’s recent Global Month of Service. The volunteer activities were part of the company’s second annual global month of service – a month-long initiative where employees dedicate their time and energy to create positive change in local communities worldwide.

Employees from Mallinckrodt’s Specialty Brands headquarters in Bedminster, N.J., spent a day at the local Somerset Regional Animal Shelter where they walked dogs, cleaned animal cages and helped with yard work.

“The shelter staff was deeply appreciative of having so much extra help. All of the small chores we accomplished individually had a big collective impact,” said Valerie Carvajal, Clinical Trial Manager at Mallinckrodt.

In addition, four teams based in St. Louis, Mo. volunteered throughout the city and neighboring counties, providing much needed assistance to local shelters. The teams helped with a range of activities including sorting donations, cleaning and organizing toys and outdoor play areas, walking dogs, filling enrichment toys and painting adoption rooms.

“I started volunteering at the pet adoption center because it was a great form of exercise, with the added benefit of helping to socialize the dogs,” said Jackie Rappold, Senior Quality Project Manager at Mallinckrodt. “Volunteering as a team helped us build new connections with each other, while doing something rewarding.”
